Before disregarding any notion of embarrassment, I pushed the door open. Giovanni was laid on the bed, one arm folded behind his head while the other clutched a book. His long muscular legs were crossed at the ankles and I gulped audibly at how irresistible he looked. “Are you seriously giving me the silent treatment again?” I asked as irritation itched at my throat. Giovanni remained stoic, his eyes still trained on the novel in his hand. I sat on the end of the bed, staring at his nonchalant form. The title in his hand caught my eye, ‘La Divina Commedia’. (The Divine Comedy) I smiled at the book in his hand.

It contained a single book. “Woah! This is crazy,” Roger whispered. Lazarus walked up to the book, it was in a glass protective casing. “You didn’t know this was here, did you?” Velma asked. “No, I didn’t,” he clarified. Lazarus inspected the book. “What is it?” Nigel demanded. “It’s so beautiful,” Clarke admired. Lazarus gulped when he realized what it was. “It’s the Book of The God’s.”

Magic tightening like a net. He began to speak, chanting in an old tongue. But before the incantation could finish, the book burned. Flame shot up from the name — not wild, but deliberate. Purposeful. It didn’t destroy the page. It sealed it. The gold letters glowed red-hot before cooling into black glass. The Archivist stepped back, eyes wide. “The book has accepted her.” The woman Councilor snarled. “Then we’ll erase the page.” I stepped forward.

The ladies all giggle and Julie stands, handing a new bookmark to each of us. "Yes. We figured we'd get you ones that suited you a little better." she says. The new one is dark blue with gold lettering that says 'Real men read dirty books'. I smile and look over at Ev who's showing Harper his excitedly. "These are great. Thank you." I say just as Bri nudges me. "Oh! Tell them your joke, love!" Harper says excitedly. Ev rolls his eyes before addressing the group.

Silence lingered between them. The rest of the flight was quiet as Kevin sat in another seat at the back busy signing documents and discussing business matters while Emma read a book and intermittently looked out the window watching the scenery below and sometimes stealing a glance back at him and caught him looking at her. After an hour, Kevin walked to her, checking on her as she drifted off to sleep. The leather-bound book she was reading lay open on her lap, the words written on its open page clearly visible; “If I know what love is, it is because of you!" Kevin smiled and then put the book aside. There was no lie in it.

"You're a miracle worker. Whatever you gave me is pure gold." The bathroom door was open, with fresh towels folded neatly on the counter. Servants must've come in while I was out cold. There was a new stack of books on the nightstand—probably to keep me from going crazy with boredom. I reached for the top one excitedly. The cover was simple leather, the title embossed plainly: Eternal Bonds. Sounded harmless enough. Maybe some sweet fantasy romance. I flipped it open to a random page and started reading.

Both were really awkward at each other at first but when they found out that both were reading the same book, they eventually got a comfortable to talk at each other. “So, you also read that book-” “Yeah, I got into it after a friend of mine recommended it to me.” “Isn’t it a great book.” “Yeah, I got hooked on it after reading the first chapter.” “bla-bla-bla” Both continued to talked to each other and enjoyed their conversation. “I was feeling an awkward atmosphere growing between our table so I was gonna try to start a conversation but when you brought out your book, I was just surprised to see a person reading it.” The girl said.

Books and stories were her life, not boys and shopping, and she liked it fine that way. Of course, if she hadn’t loved books so much, maybe she wouldn’t have peeked into that big, black leather-bound book her cousin Heather had left behind after her annual summer visit last year. Then she never would’ve snuck that book into her room and perused its parchment-like pages in hushed anticipation, and never would’ve flipped to the page with that drawing of a majestic-looking half-man, half-seahorse or mumbled the strange-sounding words printed beneath it. And then, Bob wouldn’t have shown up in her bathroom sink two days later, and he wouldn’t have embarrassed her in front of Adam Stillman today.

Kennedy POV. The weather was bad, but I needed to get that new book, it's Robert birthday gift, who'd knew a grown up man would kill for the newest werewolf love book. I got into my car, drove carefully toward the local book store, they had the new book reserved for me. It was supposed to one quick drive, until I walked into the library. A girl was sitting on a bean bag, her blond hair was covering her eyes with overgrown bangs, she tried to huff them away from her face but to no use. She looked young, maybe she's just here with her parents, looking down at the book she had in her hands it was a kids story. Does she read for the local kids? Or is it just for her?

When they were out of the main drinking area, where the nightclubs and bars were located, Lucas allowed himself a small, satisfied smile. Ema would be pleased. After weeks of failure, they were positive that they would receive exactly what they had been looking for. Astor followed the smell to a little, independent bookshop nestled in between a thrift store and a vegan café. Over the door was a sign that proclaimed ‘Bookmark Haven’ in finely chipped gold paint. Indeed, the bookstore was closed, and all the windows in it were blind, but Lucas was convinced the individuals were still alive in the building.
