He forces a strangled growl and pushes me backwards into the room, slamming the door shut. When I hear the turn of a key it’s like the very walls are closing in around me. "No! No! Let me explain!" I scream, hitting the door frame in anguish. Another round of gunfire. “CAL! CAL!” Every minute that passes adds another layer of terror. I rake through everything on Cal’s tiny desk. Papers fall to the floor, the atlases he stole from the library. I fist my hand into every hooded top until I find his room key. I drag on a sweater of Cal’s, no longer caring who the fuck knows and sprint down the hallway.
