She had both hands pressed flat on the table and her eyes were wide and bright and she looked more awake than she had in weeks. "The quiet one," she said. "Yes." "The one with the journal." "Yes." "The one betrothed to the Thorne girl." "Grandma!" I growled in frustration. “They are all betrothed to the Thorne girls and I do not want to remember that” "I am just making sure I have the right boy, Wren. There are three of them." She picked up her cup again. Took a slow sip. Her eyes dancing excitedly over the rim of it. "How was it?"

"My name is Amara." Behind her walk two more women. They look almost identical. All three possess white-blonde hair that falls almost to their waists. The same sapphire eyes. The same graceful movements. Yet each carries herself differently. One has a playful smile dancing across her lips. The other watches me with complete indifference. "I'm Sara." The playful one waves. "And I'm Elara." The last woman simply nods. I narrow my eyes. "What do you want? Why did you bring us here."

The Silent Third Floor Ten minutes later, I found myself standing in front of a room on the third floor. This floor was rarely used and far quieter than the lively party downstairs. My breathing was uneven. Logic told me to leave—to run as far away from this house as possible. But curiosity and Davian’s threat pulled me like a tightening noose. I turned the key.
