Before he could ask anything else, Ryder was gone — as silently as he had entered.
The door beeped again and locked automatically behind him. For a while, Arden just stood there. The library was quiet again, but his heartbeat wasn’t.
He looked down at the book in his hand, then sighed deeply.

Just like Ryder had said, a box was placed neatly on Arden’s bed.
He saw it as soon as he came out of the bathroom, towel draped around his neck and hair still damp. The matte black box with a golden seal at the top. The seal carried the letter “B,” and Arden didn’t need to be told who it belonged to.
