She cautiously made her way back to the quiet library. She scanned the thousands of titles, her fingers brushing over worn leather spines. She should have picked a history, or a strategy text, something to sharpen her mind. Instead, her hand hesitated and then settled on a novel with a worn, colorful cover depicting a windswept couple. A romance. It felt foolish, indulgent, but she pulled it from the shelf anyway.

Most of them were what I expected—books on strategy, history, a few on Italian mafia politics. And then, tucked on the bottom shelf, almost hidden— "You weren't kidding about these?" I pulled one out, raising an eyebrow. "Really?" "Put that back." "The Duke's Dangerous Desire," I read aloud, grinning. "A Rake's Redemption. The Highlander's Captive Bride—" "Jameson."
