Once Upon An Alpha

Once Upon An Alpha

In her hands, she held a very beat-up copy of ‘Of Mice and Men. “Oh, Harriet! Thank you!” I squeezed my best friend before clutching the book to my chest. She grinned at me before she turned back to run back to where Matt was. I found my feet leading me back towards the creek. Away from the burned buildings, away from the chard remains of the carnival, and away from the dead. The thought of the packhouse was suffocating on a carefree regular day. Now there was over three times the amount of people shoved in there. For some reason, I felt like the creek was where I should be, like something in my gut was pulling me there.

This story is so good!! The author seems to put time and effort behind their characters!! And while peoples choices can be frustrating, baby beta looking at you, they all make sense with how the story is progressing and what’s happened! Couldn’t recommend this book enough!

I love this book. The author has created a wonderful world with well thought characters that I actually care about. The characters aren't perfect, they each have their own flaws and personalities. Each of them have grown in their own ways.

The Calculated Love Was Gone

The Calculated Love Was Gone

Lily took off her glasses, but her face was still full of pleasure. "But this book, The Caged Bird and the Lion, is just magnificent. Even though it's fiction, the descriptions of Mafia family life are so real, it's like the author lived it." Lorenzo scoffed. "Boring fantasies. What do those writers know about the Mafia?" He reached for a file, but his eyes were drawn to the book Lily had placed on the table. The pages were open to a drawing of a white bird imprisoned in a golden cage, with a majestic lion standing outside.

He came over to me and handed me the book before sitting back by Margarette. I looked at the book that had the book cover Of Mice and Men on it. When I opened the book, I could see that it was really a book about Red Wolves. "This belongs to you now," Charles said "Why didn't you tell me that all Red Wolves were a part of your bloodline?" Sean asked

The only difference was that I was now picking and choosing who I did psychic readings for. I’d made up my mind to completely stop doing the readings. I’d taken up writing novels and I wanted to only focus on that, but, somehow I’d get talked into doing just one more. It was enough to drive me mad at times. I was furious with myself for not having the where-with-all to say no to these people. I felt like I was trapped on a hamster wheel that wouldn’t slow down enough for me to get off. My sanity’s saving grace was the friendship I’d developed with the town veterinarian, Kenzie McGovern.

The Mate Agreement

The Mate Agreement

“What John Steinbeck was trying to convey in Of Mice and Men wasn’t just moral dilemma. He explores themes of human nature and the line between right and wrong and how sometimes it gets blurry. Most people consider it a sad, depressing novel, which it is, but really, it’s more of Steinbeck bravely showing a side of human nature that man often times refuses to see. It’s like when we read Beowulf. Page ninety-six, last few lines of the second paragraph, he writes and I quote; ‘The men raced around the last stall. Their eyes found Curley’s wife in the gloom, they stopped and stood still and looked.’ At this point we can feel the collective grief of the men poring out of the page, we can see the

Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Dumas. "Intellectual," I muttered. "Great." I wished there were more books on other topics, like math or anatomy and physiology. Then again, I hadn’t explored the whole place. It might have them. Somewhere. I spotted a section on economics and business. I pulled one out, flipping through it. It was filled with charts and graphs about logistics, shipping routes, and import tariffs. Boring, but maybe useful. If I was going to be stuck here, I was going to learn how his mind worked. If he was a businessman, I’d learn to speak his language.

The bookshelf was just as tall as Andrew so he could easily access the books there. The bookshelf had all sorts of books, ranging from fictional novels to nonfictional novels, to educational novels and textbooks. Her eyes caught titles like; The Redwall series by Brian Jacques, Caddie Woodlawn by Carol Ryrie Brink, The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros and a lot more. Even the Encyclopedia was in his bookshelf. And there was also some novels on the basis of business and finance. The book the lad was currently reading was The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie.

If you loved the raw emotional punch and bleak yet beautiful humanity of 'Of Mice and Men', you might dive into Steinbeck’s other works like 'The Grapes of Wrath'. It’s got that same gritty realism and focus on marginalized folks struggling against forces bigger than themselves. The Joad family’s journey hits just as hard as George and Lennie’s story, with Steinbeck’s signature lyrical prose painting the Dust Bowl era in vivid, heartbreaking strokes.

Another gem is 'East of Eden', which expands the themes of brotherhood and destiny but with a multi-generational epic twist. Cathy Ames might be one of literature’s most chilling antagonists—way darker than Curley’s wife! For something non-Steinbeck, try Richard Wright’s 'Native Son'. Bigger Thomas’s tragic trajectory has that same inevitable, crushing weight, wrapped in a searing critique of systemic racism.
