When my shift ended, I found myself walking toward the corner table where Kael sat, his laptop closed now, a book in his hands. I stopped short when I saw the cover. ‘Knot We Cannot Untie.’ That was the book he was holding. I can't believe that Kael would be reading one of Linda Lively’s books. “You read… this?” I said, the surprise evidently in my voice. Kael looked up, one brow raised. “Why? You think I only read racing magazines and bank statements?” I gave a small laugh. “Chill bro. It’s just… not what I was expecting ”

and all sorts of cool gadgets. We got coffee and browsed the shelves. I found tons of books and book marks and pens and journals. They had coffee mugs and little Christmas games too. I found a sweatshirt that said “get your hands off my book boyfriend” that I had to have.. and a pair of socks that said “don’t speak to me I’m reading”. Jenny had her hands full as well when we went up to check out. I started to ask the girl if they were hiring… working here would be so much more fun that working at the restaurant.

Her aunt gives her a small smile and nods, Celine finds the bookmark and opens to the page. The woven bookmark has a faded blue tassel and was made of woven threads depicting wolves running in a forest, at the bottom of the bookmark was an old wolf’s tooth with a hole drilled through to be able to tie it onto the bookmark. She puts it to one side to look at the page it had been marking. It looked much like many of the others she had seen flipping through. But its words had her feeling like her world was slipping through her fingers and she was unable to do anything to stop it.

But she… didn’t flinch. Lena walked over to a little table display and picked up a thin, cloth-bound book. She walked over to him, holding it out like an offering. *The Quiet Between Lightning Strikes.* A poetry book. The cover was old and nubbly, the title scribbled in fine silver ink. Julian stared at it like it was an alien thing. "What's this?" "A book," she said, smiling. "I told you. I don't—"

The cover of the third book was a silent declaration of victory. Where the previous ones had carried dark and uncertain tones, this one displayed a watercolor in golds and deep blues—colors that evoked sunrises over the ocean, promises kept, and horizons that had finally revealed themselves within reach. The title, engraved in handwritten letters like an intimate confession, was simple and revolutionary: “To Live.”

The funny part is that, outside of witches who are openly practicing on social media, they think we’re just fictional characters. I saw an opportunity a few years ago, when I stepped inside a human bookstore, Dad told me to run with it, so I did. Our biggest seller was a T-shirt with a wolf’s face and golden eyes and the slogan “I Don’t Chase. I Track.” For men. That one shocked me. Women bought tank tops with the slogan “Prey is a Point of View.” The entire line was a huge success. Right before everything turned to shit, I was going to introduce motorcycle gear. The wolves running that operation were some of the most clever creatives I’d come across.
