Isabella’s POV It was nice to have dinner with Papa, but of course, as soon as the topic of the DeMarcos came up, there was a huge fight. “I don’t understand in this day and age that you can’t barter for my freedom,” I voiced, crossing my arms. “It’s mafia tradition, Mia Stellina,” Papa replied. “The mafia is very steeped in tradition and values. There is even a mafia council in Italy with strict rules. If you go against the council, you can face severe penalties, including death.”

The first time I allowed myself to feel, it nearly destroyed me silly. I need some shit to distract me. I turn back to my laptop, pulling up an email I had to act on. The second captures Mr. La Rosa again. But this time, handing a file to a man. The emblem on the man’s jacket gives him away as a member of the Gambino family. They were known rivals of the La Rosa empire but it seems they are working together now.

I pressed my fingertips against my temples, trying to breathe through the overwhelming rush of thoughts. James was on the phone again, his voice sharp. “No one outside of my authority is to have knowledge of Mr. Liam’s condition. Do you understand?” I glanced at him, confused. As if sensing my stare, James turned to me and sighed. “Mr. Liam is the most powerful Mafia boss in Europe,” he explained. “If word gets out that he’s unconscious, the hospital will turn into a war zone before sunrise.” I felt a shiver run down my spine. I hadn’t even thought of that.

However, Bobby broke Omerta and orchestrated a raid on Velvet Handcuffs, resulting in the arrest of the Antonovich Brothers and the dismantling of their illegal operations in Chicago. “Gentlemen,” I acknowledge Bobby and Paul Vincenzio with a nod, confidently to taking a seat without invitation.
