She felt it in her bones: something heavier than weather. Ethan noticed, he leaned close, voice pitched for her ears alone. “You okay, Moonbean?” She nodded once, small fingers tightening around her cup of warm cider. “It’s close.” He didn’t ask what. He simply rested his hand on the back of her chair, a silent promise. The music swelled. An elder rose to begin the oath recitation. Three hundred voices joined in low, reverent unison, “We are Blood Moon. We are one heart, one fang, one future...”

"Why did she…" "Because of me. Because of what I did to you." My stomach dropped. "What you did to me?" He stood. Paced. Ran a hand through his hair. For the first time since I'd known him, Lucien Blackwood looked uncertain. "The night you came here. The full moon. I wasn't in control. My wolf was too close to the surface and you…" He stopped. "You calmed something I've never been able to control. And when we were together, something happened that I didn't intend."

The moon hung bloated and silver above us, casting a light so sharp it turned the swirling black fog into jagged shards of shadow. Malachi walked beside me, his presence a heavy, grounding heat that felt like a shield against the vacuum of the North. Behind us, Kaelen and twelve of the Obsidian Elite moved in a perfect, silent arc, their blades drawn and glowing with a faint blue luminescence. We turn at the same time to see Luka stepping out from the forest, his gold-tinted curls blowing about his face, his brown eyes wide with wonder at the sight of the river. He walks past, still not seeing us. Darius and I look at each other, then scramble up to follow him. Luka stops at the top of the river embankment. He passes his hand over his eyes. When he drops his hand again, he opens his eyes and they are a milky grey colour. The glow disappears from the sky and in the darkness a full moon rises. Not just any moon. I recognize this moon. So pale, so clear, it appears as if behind a layer of ice. The first full moon of the new year. The Wolf Moon.

The sight that befell Cilyna and Kaynon as they reached the side of the mountain had Cilyna staring in astonishment. An older woman with hip length silver hair sat cross legged in the center of a salt circle. There was no wind blowing through the trees, yet her hair was flowing all around her as if she had stuck her finger in a light socket though gently swaying to her soft siren chant. The setting sun was her spotlight and the small dust like particles floating in the air looked like glitter. The scene had a Disney magic feel to it.

Amber nodded just before a contraction rippled through her. As the moon rose to its peak, the Lunas began to push. Amber was the first to birth to her child, which I expected. He was a healthy boy with blonde hair and blue eyes. I passed the boy to Alpha Damien to clean him up as I turned my focus to Michelle. The moon reached its peak as the female was born. I called to Selene and the moon turned blue before she descended to earth. We clasped hands and began the incantation to seal her powers. The wind picked up as we finished the spell. She turned to her beloved creatures and smiled, then faded and returned to the moon. I quickly put the blinding spell on the female and watched as they cra

He was screaming for her, begging for her to come to him, but she wasn’t moving. She was bleeding from her neck, and was incredibly pale. When Liam took her into his arms, she was cold. The blue in her eyes was disappearing. “Lily, oh my Lily,” Liam cried. “No no no, look at me baby. Baby look at me. Please, please,” He begged her. He begged her with everything in his belief system. He begged and begged.

’ Suddenly, the muffled sound of a door being violently thrown open echoed through the line. Kaelen’s heart forcefully skipped a beat, his hands tightening instinctively around the steering wheel. “Matt! What on earth happened over there? Answer me!” However, the one who responded to him was not Matt. “Where are you?” Hearing Scarlett’s voice, Kaelen’s face shifted drastically. “What’s wrong?” After a momentary stillness, Scarlett spoke, her words cutting through the air with agonizing slowness. “Your Luna, Iris, and the pup in her womb are both dead.”
