I stepped back past the gate, fumbling for my phone, my hands shakes as I tried to order a ride. “Sofia...” The door slammed behind me. I bolted, but a grip caught my elbow. “Why are you crying?” she asked quietly. Her soft voice only stoked the fire burning inside me. “Leave me alone, Brianna.” I hissed, brushing away tears with trembling hands, swallowing the sobs. “I’m sorry.” Her apology felt like salt on a fresh wound. “Sorry?” I spat. “You think that’s enough? You never begged Mom to love her stepdaughter more than her own?”

The fact that he kept on apologizing got to me and I just nodded. “I also want to tell you now sorry I am about what happened to Brianna.
