I reply smoothly.
“Something flattering,” Fabiano corrects. “I said you look like you belong to the sea.”
Her cheeks flush. “That’s… nice.”
“Nice?” he gasps, clutching his chest. “Carina, that’s an insult to poetry!”
“Enough,” I snapped lightly. “We’re here for drinks, not an audition for The Bachelor: Italian Edition.”
He snorts. “You’re no fun, fratello.”
“Fun is overrated.”
At the bar, Fabiano uncorks a bottle with a flourish. The smoky scent of aged whiskey fills the air.
