He was having a hearty conversation with another elderly man who was constantly checking the grill. I was about to move away, but Barnes looked up and saw me. He waved me to come over and join them. I walked over uncertainly. "I didn't know you would come, and you have even painted your face," Barnes said happily. "Gene made me do it," I replied. He laughed and waved it aside, saying, "It looks good on you. You look happy." I nodded slightly, realizing that I was happier than I had been in quite a while. He introduced me to his friend, whom Gene was telling me about that he made the best barbecue grills she had ever tasted.

Finally, just one with Micky. “Good, you’re here!” Dad says, grabbing my arm and yanking me to the stairs. He starts snapping pictures of me, then shoves Caden beside me. I freeze as everyone, including staff, stares. “Oh heavens, it’s like the Addams Family. Just smile, for fuck’s sake!” Mum yells, raising her camera. Caden throws on a fake smile. He looks constipated. I snort. “What? I’m smiling!” he says defensively.

The particular tension of a person who has been braced for a verdict they weren't sure of, released. "I have a pool," he said. "You have an excellent pool," I said. "The lake is pretty good too." "The lake is exceptional." He smiled. It was the barn smile, the real one, the one from before everything went wrong. "I'm glad you're here," he said. "I'm glad I'm here too," I said. And I meant it completely.

He lets it hang in the air, a vague accusation draped in implication. “You mean more than smashing his face in?” River pipes up, still swimming in the oversized leather jacket like a very smug, very sarcastic little war general. She leans against my brother’s leg, with a hand holding her bunny’s ear, and a smirk that would piss off a priest. Jackson’s jaw tics. Then, slowly, that twisted, carnivorous smile creeps across his face. It’s not charming. It’s not sane. It’s the kind of smile that comes right before something explodes — or someone disappears.

Jackson saw me and waved at me enthusiastically, almost falling off his chair, making Tasha laugh hard at him, almost choking on her apple juice as I approached the table. "Hey dumbasses." I greet them with a bright smile. "Hey chipmunk," Jackson says with a smirk on his face. Weird. Jay was always happy, yeah, but never this happy. And he was smiling like he knew something I didn't. Opening up the bag Bryson packed my lunch in, I started eating. That was until I couldn't bear the looks Tasha and Jackson were both giving me. "Okay!" I said, slapping my palms on the table.

“Nah, you look like a princess I have only read in books, it just the tiara that is missing. We could stop at a nearby store to get it, don’t you think?” He flattered.I smiled.“You are so smooth, Billy.” “I am just trying to make you smile. You look better when you smile and you should smile often.” He said. I glanced at the rear mirror to see Jake was watching me. I immediately looked away,“I am always smiling. It’s just that, smiling hasn’t been something I do willingly these days.” I said, looking up at the mirror. Jake looked away, staring outside through the window. “You just have to smile even when there is nothing to smile about.

“And you are connected by the mindlink, so you’ll never be too far from the other!” Jay sighs heavily as he looks between us. He doesn’t seem to like this idea, but as far as I can tell, he has given in to my request. He nods in defeat before moving over to me and placing his forehead against my shoulder. I offer him a comforting embrace and look over at Bucky. He has a worried look on his face, but for now, I leave it alone. This is worrying for him too. I might hurt him just as much as anyone else, but he is the only one who can help if he can help at all.

One amazing thing about this whole thing is that this guy right here seems so unfazed by everything going on. Before we left, he had held my mother's hands and promised to take care of me while giving her a reassuring smile, but the smile looked evil to me, you know that smile Chuckie has on before killing someone? Yeah, that's the kind of smile he had on. His Chuckie-like smile didn't scare me though, because I kept a calm demeanor while reassuring myself that I'll be just fine. I remembered my shotgun, the one I had purchased in an underground store three days ago, and felt even calmer.

I told him with a frown while looking at his face. Brye had this sick smile on his face, “Nah, I don’t snitch” he grinned at me before sitting back down in his seat. “Not even a clue? Kase I’m quite sure na about sakin yon” I tell him, not taking my eyes off him. We were drowned in silence, but my eyes never left him.
