Gunner said without moving,
“Yes” I answered,
“Please don’t kill me” he said firmly. I looked at his back and watched his chest rise and fall with his breaths. I could smell his caution and his protectiveness. Though what was he protective over? Himself perhaps.
“Okay” I said softly and laid down on the makeshift bed beside him. I have no intention of sleeping. He doesn’t trust me, as he shouldn’t. But I don’t trust him either. There is no way I will let my guard down, regardless of what my stomach is telling me. I laid quietly, listening to the slow steady breaths of the recklessly brave Were next to me.
