He is very cute.” She nodded, pulling the bunny back to her chest. “Let me help.” I reached out and grabbed one of the bags from the bakery and one from the vendors. “Thanks. Let’s drop these off at the car and then we can go to lunch. Here is a little cafe on the corner, they have the best view of the sea from their balcony.” I got up and Auri got up with me. She took hold of my shirt with one hand, clutching the bunny in the other. Max looked at me wiggled his eyebrows up and down. Shaking my head, I followed him back down the street.

“James? Are they from—” “Your bakery, yes. Only the best will do for Hale Tower.” “When did you… I mean I never knew…” “No, the order is discreet. Named something crazy probably…” “Baby’s Day Out…” Theo says as he passes us. “A ‘local creche’ that’s what I called it. Not much difference, as you’ll see.” The coffee bar is manned by someone who looks like they moonlight as a DJ, and there’s a faint, curated jazz playlist humming from invisible speakers.

I poured coffee I didn't want into a cup I didn't need and stood with my back to the room for approximately four seconds before I heard a small voice beside me. "Is that coffee?" I looked down. Zenya stood at my elbow, her bunny tucked under one arm, studying the coffee dispenser with the focused concentration of someone conducting a serious evaluation. "It is," I said. "My mom drinks coffee." She considered this. "She says it's for grown-ups only, but I had some once when she wasn't looking, and it tasted like burnt sadness." Something shifted inside my chest. I kept my face steady. "That's an accurate description," I said.

When the man gets close, he takes a deep breath and smiles slightly. "Hello. What's your name?" His voice is so deep that I feel it all over my body. "I'm Sally. I'm a bunny, but not one of the Biker Bunnies. Alpha Doug bought me from my parents when I was fourteen. I'm eighteen now." I'm rambling, but I don't know what else to say.

The first night in the house was when everything truly began. The moving truck had been unloaded, the boxes stacked in corners, the furniture arranged in rough positions. I stood there hugging the bunny, gazing at Rowan’s back. Why was he being nice to me? Why did he get the bunny for me? God, Helen, you are a genius.” “I wouldn’t go that far.” Helen laughed as she held her matching nails next to the other woman’s. “Whatever.” Bunny laughed. “We have to show off our nails. Let’s do brunch.” Bunny told Helen to keep her gift certificate, today was on her. Bunny then drove them over to have brunch at a little café just off the square where they sat near the fireplace. Bunny recommended the English breakfast and Helen was amazed at the amount of food placed in front of them.

We stood silently again facing each other awkwardly before Adrian appeared at the doorway with coffee. “Mr.Marano,sir”. Adrian said calmly though I suspected he was trying to hide his shock at the scene in front of him though. “I've brought some coffee for breakfast, the rest of it will be served inside.” Lucas looked away from me first,his voice clipped. “Come on in Lucia and bring that…bunny.” I chuckled a bit at his tone but I obliged, the bunny tucked warmly against me.

Bunny words fell and they all were astonished; the voice and tone was exactly Bunny's. " Hey Hey hey! Wait. First tell me how you know……." Let me finish first then if you have questions, I will answer them too." They all did a nod . In a few seconds they all set in the living room and Bunny started his confession. " After my bone marrow transplant doctors warned you guys that the donor was not my sibling but my aunt so maybe I will face some organ damage issues in future, remember!?"
