The hut was warm, carrying the faint scent of burnt herbs and whatever incense Ishaan had lit the night before. Ashwin was sprawled out on the bed like a discarded offering, his green tail stretched lazily across the soft nest of blankets, still sluggish from—well, from being absolutely ruined. Unfortunately for him, he was not alone. Two other tails—one a deep, shimmery purple, the other a bright, fire-kissed orange—were tangled up with his own.

A creature resembling a squirrel with a bushy tail but the face of one of those big-nosed monkeys scampered through branches, tying off vines that held up the roof of some kind of stall. Some of them wore clothes — little waistcoats with pockets, or bandoliers with tools and weapons hanging from them — and I could see Flossie’s eyes expanding with glee. She was practically salivating at the prospect of grabbing one and giving him a cuddle. Right before he throttled her with his adorable human-like hands and ate her face.

The melody continued, unwavering. Beside it sat a much smaller creature. A rabbit? No... not quite. It had the size of a small child, a round, fluffy body like a bunny, but what caught my attention the most were its long, white pigtails that swayed softly in the wind and long chubby tail. Neither of them had noticed me yet. Or had they? The tune never faltered, the atmosphere remained eerily peaceful, and yet, I felt as if I had just stepped into something far beyond my understanding.

Long, ragged-gray fur cloaked most of its body in mats. It had to be larger than my pickup truck back at home. Sniffing the air with its massive head, I noticed a small notch taken out of its ear as if it had once been tagged by a hunter. It began wagging its long bushy tail like a playful dog while circling the tree, trying to figure out where my scent trail led. Thankfully, not bothering to glance up at me.

The tree's gigantic roots spread out above the ground as if intimidating other trees from approaching. I looked in amazement at the Giant Hanurusa tree. My eyelids didn't blink at all for a few seconds. Not only me, Dimas, and Shella were amazed by it. I might be stuck in that place forever if Shella didn't carelessly run closer to the front. "This place is great!" she cried cheerfully, then lowered her body and reached for the fiery orange plant that grew on the roots of Hanarusa. "There's even a very rare Ember Bush here! Oh, look! There's the Purple Turmoil Flower too!"

Terrified, Scarlet barked to her sisters, "Both of you! Into the safe room now!" Four white, bushy tails sprouted at her back. "Wow," Chu Xun blurted, "A nine-tailed silver-backed fox." A crimson shroud of light enveloped around Scarlet and the sheer intensity of her burgeoning aura thrashed and pitched violently like a storm. Swoosh! Swoosh! She swung all four of her tails at Chu Xun, and they lanced at him like spears. Chu Xun fired four bolts in rapid succession; the energy bolts pummeled at the tails, forcing Scarlet away as the pulses of force from the impacts obliterated the furniture into scraps of wood.

My tail wagged as Eleanor took her first steps through the trees. Wait… I had a tail now! I wanted to look at it, so I urged my wolf to allow me to look at my tail. She did. I gaped at the fluffy white tail protruding from my behind. “Look, Elelanor! We have a white tail!” I exclaimed in excitement. I hadn’t seen a wolf with a white tail. Most of the wolves in our region were grey with a black-tipped tail, while alphas were usually black and huge. But a wolf with a fluffy white tail like mine was unheard of.

Alex was also curious, so he stretched his hand to grab the large wagging tail. As a result of that, he heard Frostine let out a mesmerizing purr the moment he grabbed it. “What’s wrong?” Alex let go of his hand in shock. “It’s... uncomfortable,” Frostine said she blushed. Since that tail had grown out of her tailbone, she felt her butt being touched the moment Alex touched it. “Is that so? I thought you were comfortable,” Alex asked in surprise. “Oh, I deduced it from your voice. “Now, let me pull out the chains for you. It should be fine!”

Each of us also has a different number of tails depending on which barangay we are going to. After we left, Yune went to Barangay Uno, Geoffrey to Barangay Dos, I to Barangay Tres, Iris to Barangay Kwatro, Lizar to Barangay Singko, Ate Willow to Barangay Sais, Ate Oriana to Barangay Syete, Axton in Barangay Otso and Ma'am Safira in Barangay Nuebe. I am the 3 tailed beast because of my three tails; my hair is brownish black like a porcupine animal, the second was the black blue peacock feathers on my back and a sharp and spiky fish tail.

Alpha Malik and Jericho stealthily reached their chosen hunting spot, a pristine wilderness teeming with possibilities. The hunting bush sprawled before them, a tapestry of lush greenery, dappled sunlight, and hidden secrets.
