The blade absorbed every drop and turned black. Then Cael entered with dead eyes and a walk that didn't belong to him. Elle screamed. Nova threw her magic at him. Neither worked. He sent Nova into the stone wall and Elle across the floor after her. Blood ran from Nova's hairline as she staggered up, reaching for the dagger with her magic, pulling with everything she had left. Cael knelt toward it, hand open, fingers reaching. Jax came through the door at a dead run and threw himself at Cael.

"And the absolute destruction of Obsidian Ridge." Caelum stepped directly in front of Lyra, his broad shoulders shielding her completely as his eyes flared with an insane, silver-gold fury.
