THE FIRST CRACK ~CLAIRE'S POV~ The red satin dress feels like liquid fire against my skin as I move through the Hampton's charity gala. The wrap neck design accentuates my collarbones, while the short hem shows off my legs. Each step I take, my Louboutin heels click against the marble floor. I straightened my hair today, letting it fall in a sleek curtain just past my shoulders. Simple. Elegant. Devastating. The whispers follow me like shadows:

Poor Claire she must have waited for me as long time. I didn't get the chance to inform her about my situation. Claire's cousin Derek Walson is going to abroad for his higher studies. Lipstick the exact shade of the dress, like I was painting on courage. The woman in the mirror looked flawless, untouchable. Nothing like the girl who'd cried herself to sleep three nights running over a man who wasn't even really hers.

Red emulated him. Then Caitlin arrived, wearing an elegant sequin dress and silver heels, sporting dark glasses. A gala look, exaggerated considering the time of the morning.
