Above them stretched a large banner which read: ‘Happy Birthday, Little Kitty.’ The sight stole the breath from her lungs. For a moment, Kate forgot she was turning twenty-six years old. She forgot about the pain she was meant to feel today; she forgot about everything else.

Why not? I can use some candy. The sky still doesn’t look like rain, but it’s not too hot, so maybe it won’t melt. We walk along beside each other, and Poppy holds my hand, like we are good friends. And maybe we are. As long as she stops teasing me about Maddox…. I sure hope he likes his gift, and I hope that he can tell me where they came from. I feel bad for that poor king and his family, but in the back of my mind, I have to wonder….
