MARIE Daniel didn't back down. He stepped right into Walker’s space, his chest nearly brushing the other man’s suit. "Who are you to interfere with my business?" Walker snapped, his voice tight with annoyance. "I’m her man," Daniel said, his voice dropping into that low, dangerous register that made my skin prickle. "And I’m the protector of our princess. So back off now, or I’ll show you who I really am." Daniel was looking for a fight.

I shook my head at him. "Yes, Danny you are." "Thank you. Now, let's get you out of here." He picked up my bag and his and walked towards me to help me stand up. He placed my hand over his shoulder since he wasn't that much taller than me, and placed a hand on my waist. We started our walk out of the locker room. We got to the main restaurant and saw Mr. Connor standing in the corner watching us angrily as we passed by him to the door. Danny really got him good.

“Seriously? Where?” I lean back against the bench again. “Dallas.” A whistle cuts through the room. “Walker’s team.” Nash Walker was born to wear the captain’s C. The guy’s been dragging teams forward his entire life. Hardest worker on the ice and toughest guy in the room. He’s the kind of captain every player wants to go to war for. Everything he’s built? He earned it. I rub a hand down my face slowly. This isn’t just awkward. This is a damn explosion waiting to happen.

I asked, clasping both my hands above the table. “I’ll be Caley’s date instead, I’m sure he wouldn’t mind,” Emma replied as I nodded, flitting my eyes at Mason and stared at him expectantly. “I—“ he tried to find his words before continuing, “I’m not sure who I would ask as a date.” I furrowed my brows in response. Was he trying to make me feel guilty for not choosing him? “Dude, you’re Mason fucking Walker. Everyone would die to date you,” Danny cheered him up and patted his back.

I'm not ashamed to admit I'm really proud of what I've accomplished. "Really good so far. Thanks for asking." Daniel has been captain of the Texas Mutiny, the team I now play for, for a few years. Not only is he a kick ass forward, he's really respected in the league for being a stand up guy. Family man. Local legend. All around fantastic leader. I was really excited when I found out I was going to be working with him. The biggest scandal he's been involved in his entire career is that he started dating someone with a kid in the last couple of months.

I didn’t get five seconds. Three girls were already waiting by the sinks, all fake tans and fake laughs and real venom. I felt sorry for him, being a captain of a great football team entails a lot of responsibilities, commitment and expectations from what I've seen.
