"My buildings are gone. My empire is damaged. You've made your point."
"Have I?" Rex laughed, but it sounded hollow in the concrete room. "You think losing some buildings compares to losing a child?"
"No," I said quietly. "It doesn't. Nothing does."
For a moment, something flickered in Rex's eyes. Like maybe, just maybe, he remembered he was human.
But then it was gone.
"Your buildings burned beautifully," he said. "Especially that restaurant. Your mother's legacy, wasn't it? All those memories, all that history - gone. Just like my Marcus."
