Damon instantly stepped completely in front of me, shielding my body with his own.

A burst of static echoed from an old, wall-mounted public address speaker overhead.
“Welcome, Damon,” a distorted, synthesized voice boomed through the space, reverberating off the metal walls.
Damon’s entire frame went rigid. “Show yourself!” he roared into the empty air, stepping out slightly from behind the crate.
The speaker emitted a chilling, metallic laugh. “You finally came. Always the hero, aren't you? Just like your father pretends to be.”
