Why are you even here?” Dianne interrupted with disgust. Carmen simply looked at her before rolling her eyes.

“You look like you’re about twelve.” A ripple of light laughter moved through the room, and Carmen joined in without hesitation. Her ginger laugh was soft, poised, and confident. “Thank you for the compliment,” she replied with a playful smile. “I know I look pretty young, but I assure you, I’m also very, very smart, and very capable.” That last part was said with a small, knowing smile, the kind that made it clear she wasn’t just saying it, she knew it to be true. “So,” she continued, “if you need any further information regarding the charitable project, you can direct those questions to me, and me only.”
