"Back off, Lena," Jace warned, his voice dropping even lower. I glanced at him and saw his eyes had shifted—the hazel darkening to that now-familiar gold that seemed to glow with inner light.
Lena's eyes flashed in response, the amber color shifting to the same unnatural gold. The air between them seemed to crackle with tension, and I found myself pressing back against the booth, my heart hammering in my chest.
"Careful, Jace," Lena purred, though there was nothing soft about her tone. "You wouldn't want to cause a scene, would you? Not with so many humans around."
