Abigail shouted. "Well, I can't decline." Scarlett placed the cup on the bar table. "Remain here and don't go around familiarizing," Scarlett said like a warning as she disappeared into the crowd with Martins. Abigail took a sip from the tequila again. Now, she could confirm the taste felt familiar. "Is this maybe from Knight Liquors?" She nodded towards the tequila she was drinking and the busy barman nodded positively to her question. "Influential isn't it?" Abigail said to herself.

“Tequila?” I shook my head. “After those margaritas, I may never drink again.” Turning a complete circle, I took in the scope of the room, including the mini living room with chairs and a sofa. A basket with fresh fruit was on the coffee table. “This could be our honeymoon.” Rei poured himself some tequila, swirled the liquid, and drank it without so much as a wince. “We’re here at mí padre’s command. With what happened in Culiacán, this is about keeping his family safe.”

A sigh of relief leaves my lips and I am thankful for the obscure music in the background that delivers a sense of privacy. “This is perfect thank you Abigail.” I nod toward the bartender, “what are we drinking tonight?” My mouth waters at the bar food menu in front of me and I consider my options. Because apparently in the basement of the house I had spent the past two weeks or so there was a cute secluded bar that served traditional bar food and a vast majority of drinks. “Naturally tequila,” she brazenly states and then holds a finger up to the air, “two tequila shots straight up please Lyle.” He winks at her and she turns her attention to me.

Dressed in jeans and a blue summer shirt scattered with red and purple blooms, my straight hair falling freely, I let my feet carry me through the hotel. The seventh-floor bar beckoned with its soft blue lighting and blessed emptiness. Most guests had migrated to the hotel's beach celebration – including Miriam and Don.
