His eyes never left mine. “You don’t know anything about him,” he said. “He’s dangerous.” I almost laughed. Dangerous? Cassian, the man who poisoned me for seven years, was warning me about danger. “How thoughtful,” I mocked. “Since when did you start caring about my safety?” His expression darkened. “You’re still a member of my pack and you can do better than my illegitimate brother. If you want to be with me so much you could just say so.”

Cassius said, aligning his own red vest, which was similar in appearance to the one Rex was wearing but had a breast watch dangling from a chain that was hooked through the corner of the pocket and came with multiple slits across the ribs, in which Cassius stashed small throwing daggers. “Quite expensive too,” Karinna said, walking into the tent, looking at Rex’s fit. “That is because they kill most of the people that hunt it,” Cassius said with a smug smile. “My father returned with only a handful of pelts after hunting the beasts for over two weeks, quite dangerous creatures.”

Luan ran to him. He was breathing. His eyes were open.

You don't take candy from strangers. If a stranger offers to let you see puppies in his van, you say "no"...or in my case a VIP tour in a temple. Shit. Her mate had been hurt. Without thought, without reason, Cassy zeroed in on the Silver Spear wolf that dared to attack her mate, and she jumped on it. Darius had dealt it some damage when tearing it from Logan, but she was there to finish the job. She tore into it without hesitation, letting her claws, snarls and bites take her frustration and anger and finally do something useful with it. It was only when it was lay unmoving, covered in bloody lashes, that Cassy stopped.

On a normal day Coco wouldn't be terribly concerned about a leopard, but a pregnant mother about to give birth? That was a creature Coco didn't want to run into.
