THIRD PERSON The storm arrived without warning. By late evening the sky had already begun to darken, heavy clouds rolling across the mountains surrounding the Silvercrest territory. The wind picked up first, rattling the tall trees that lined the compound. Then the rain followed; steady at first, then fierce. By nightfall, thunder was shaking the entire house. Layla had just finished putting away a few folded linens in her room when another loud crack of thunder split the air. The sound echoed through the halls like the sky itself had broken open.

He halted at the base of the stairs. Now, these stairs were the old fashioned planation kind, she’d only seen in pictures and tour houses in the south. They were triple wide and covered in red carpeting as they spiraled up in a wide arch to the top. They reminded her of the stairs in her most favorite movie. Gone With The Wind. The scene when Rhett carried Scarlett up the stairs with her kicking and screaming. This would be THAT staircase. She’d seen the movie a hundred times and she felt sure of it.
