“Nothing seemed to make sense so far. As I tried to piece together an improbable puzzle in my mind, the more my head throbbed with pain. It was almost impossible to attach any meaning to those riddles. Marks and mysteries, the title itself was already a riddle. I, who had gradually climbed to better positions in my career in the police, now felt like an ugly duckling and incapable of solving an apparently simple investigation. In fact, only apparently, because deep down, that race to find some meaning seemed to have no end.

Anna's Decision

Anna's Decision

You're fired. Fired. It was the worst news in a long time. I remembered an old book, ‘The Catcher in the Rye'. The protagonist is at some point left alone in the middle of the city, penniless and heartbroken, just as I was at that moment. I dicreetly waved goodbye to Jack, who seemed to be trying to tell me something I simply chose to ignore.

Teaching her a lesson

Teaching her a lesson

This promised to be the best summer break of my life. That Tuesday we started our final book of the year in senior English,The Catcher in the Rye. It was a quick unit, one of the few books where I had more troubles with students reading ahead than keeping up. A short book with fluffy assignments designed in part to shore up weaknesses in the grades of our graduates-to-be,Catcher was a welcome respite from denser material. Not only was it usually a crowd-pleaser, but with students on their way to starting jobs, college, families, the whole rest of their lives, it was a good opportunity to address the theme of growing up, its messiness and confusion and allure and unpleasantness. That I was sl

This book although taboo, brilliantly done. Original content and vividly described. Well paced. Thoroughly enjoyed and Im not even done with it yet. 30 chapters left. Def worth the read and def should be rated higher. Must be cuz of the subject matter though.

Really well-written, and very hot! It is so nice to read a book on one of these platforms without egregious spelling and grammatical errors! It lists this book as ongoing, but there haven’t been updates in a while. I would love more!

The Billionaire's Surrogate

The Billionaire's Surrogate

I can’t remember turning it on. I bend down to pick up the book. It was his favorite, ‘The Catcher in the Rye’ by J. D. Salinger. He took it everywhere he went. The day I had to collect his things at the hospital, it was just this and an old jacket that once belonged to my dad. The book, old and worn, has scribbled handwriting inside, like it was written in a hurry before the thought was lost. I close my eyes and open it on a random page. I read the first quote I can find:

I frowned, thinking about that aspect of my situation. "Why did you give your book that title?" A man towards the back of the room asked. "Oh, yes the title, so as you all know the title of my book is 'Everything Happens For A Reason', I suppose I chose it as I have a history of using that phrase and letting it be of comfort to me while growing up when small upsetting things would happen. And then of course, I got taken, and well I feel like it's a very hopeful phrase, but I definitely found myself using it as motivation to keep going during the months Noah had me."

‘What do you mean by caught up, Niel? It means being targeted by the bullies. Making fun of, being the laughingstock for everyone’s happiness. But things are just the way they are. I cannot change it, even if I have to beg for them to stop, they won’t, they will just continue and I just have to suffer. And I am used to it. “Good Morning sunshine!” And speaking of, the leader of my bullies, Nathan. I don’t know why he chose me to be the target of everyone, it’s just one day, they all went up to me and then they started saying things that are funny to them, but offensive to me.
