Mine. A breath shuddered out of me as I leaned back in the chair. My mate. I still couldn’t wrap my head around it. The bond had sunk so deep, too fast, and yet it felt like it had always been there—like some invisible tether had always existed between us, waiting for this moment to snap tight.

“We saw all of him, and he saw all of us. It bonded us. We are together now and forever. Nothing can come between us.” That sounds dangerously toxic and co-dependent. As Chad comes skipping out of the mansion with my breakfast tray, I attempt to establish a mind link with Johnathan, but fail miserably. He’s either blocking me, or the thrumming headache is interfering with my abilities. I take the glass of juice the butler places in front of me, and on a whim, I try to mind link with Haley - just to see if I'm the problem or not. I’m so surprised when I manage it that I almost drop the glass. “Haley?” I ask tentatively.

"Like my life is a broken faucet." Renzo’s thumb stops its gentle tracing, his jaw tightening almost imperceptibly. A flicker of something dangerous, a dark storm, crosses his features. His tattoos started moving again, slow spirals up his forearms. "He's here," Fen said. "The bond," he said, low and fast. "I can see it. Right now, it looks like a chain left in the rain for 20 years. Corroded. Kael's been holding it together by sheer stubbornness." He looked at me. "When he walks in, he's going to use your name. That's how he'll try to pull you back. Don't let him."

I can’t. Her growl reverberated through me, low and dangerous, a sound of deep, primal frustration. He’s chaining us. You know it. Every order we obey, every command we follow, is a link in that chain. He’s taking our freedom, piece by piece, and you are letting him.

No one answered immediately.

Tony was still chained, and he stood there watching us as the other three men worked on his chains. "Any idea what they were after?" Tony asked the Alpha. "I have never heard of an attacking group simply chaining up Enforcers. They usually try to kill them outright. I am glad I am alive, but it just doesn't make sense to me."

He moved forward, took my hand in his and placed the chain there. "This will make me remember you, every time I see it and I don't want too." He said and left from there. And I don't want too!
