The two dogs in their cages started to bark as well. Mask frowned. "Billyman, rescue them first!" "Okay!" In a flash, Billyman appeared in front of the two cages. Though he had a big frame, his speed was terrifyingly fast. He tore the iron cages open with his bare hands. The wolfdogs in the same cages immediately bared their fangs and pounced on Billyman. Bang! Bang! Billyman raised his arm to whack the dogs, simultaneously breaking the iron chain, thereby releasing Mico Styles and Jimmy Miller.

Let the pet dogs in this place handle it. As expected, not long after, three chestnut-colored dogs blocked Chloe's path. The woman slipped and slid in shock and fear. The faces of the three dogs were intimidating. Their drool dripped onto the floor where she stood. "Go away!" Chloe commanded with a trembling voice. "Go away!" The dogs kept getting closer with a menacing growl, making Chloe even more scared. "Do you want to escape, Miss?" the man said. His words made Chloe turn, and her eyes were wide with hatred. "Go ahead. I won't stop you. None of us will."

One of the boys picked up a small stone and threw it towards the old woman. "You are a witch, the entire village says so, and witches should be pelted." He picked up another stone, but as he threw it, he stumbled on the uneven ground, and the stone veered to the left of the woman and went in the nearby bushes. Out came a stray brown dog, almost a puppy, growling at the boys from behind the bushes. The boy looked at the mangled dog. He picked up more stones and threw them at the small dog. The poor dog retreated a little, its tail under its hind legs and ears stretched at the back. Its ribs were protruding out, and it had a big wound where some other dog had probably bitten him.

He grabs me and throws me away as if I were a teddy bear that a child has grown tired of. I turn around in the air, and in three jumps I am on the man. This time, I put no ties on myself, but just hammer through. I grab an arm and bite. Candyhair shouts and rips me off him. "Lay down !" He commands sternly. “Now you have gotten it out of your system! No one bothers to play with dogs that bite like that”.

I rapped off yet another row of knocks on the towering oak doors, and still no one answered. The neighbourhood was stiffly quiet and my knocks were the only sounds that could be heard in a distance, asides the dogs barking. The barking of the dogs gradually grew louder, and very soon a tall, lanky boy holding the leashes of two German shepherds became visible. When he spotted me standing by the door, his pale face contorted into fury. He barked in a heavily accented voice, "Why the f*ck is there a bloody werewolf standing in front of my bloody door?!" The dogs started to growl viciously.

My heart was screaming and crying in panic, but before I found myself getting mauled by dogs, Finn put a whistle to his mouth. “Whooee-uueet!” The dogs halted abruptly, hearing probably a familiar whistle sound from their owner. My eyes widened at the different breeds of dogs, but half of their numbers were Golden Retriever and Labrador. For a dog lover, they were adorable, sitting on the ground, looking like they were smiling while panting and waiting for a treat from their owner.

Her companions, graceful and solemn, nodded in agreement, their faces alight with a serene happiness. A werewolf, Dylan large and imposing with fur matted with the grime of combat, threw back his head and howled. It was a sound of victory, of liberation, that resonated deeply in the hearts of all present. His pack joined in, their voices harmonizing in a primal anthem that spoke of endurance and triumph.

I freeze. “Uh… dogs?” I ask. “Yes! Big dogs. Small dogs. A Chihuahua! Please?” Carmen pleads and gives me a look like I’m denying her oxygen. “No dogs. They bite. They’re dangerous,” Connor huffs. “Only to bad people,” I quip. Carmen laughs like I just delivered the funniest joke in history. Connor scowls, clearly unimpressed. Maddie groans. “Logan, don’t …” she begins, but I’ve already surrendered.

It did not feel like eight dogs at all. It felt like eight starving wolves. A chill ran up Cyrus' scalp. He was not afraid of people, but these rabid dogs truly unsettled him. People felt fear. Dogs did not. Four men rode the sleds with weapons in hand, hauling the dogs forward. One of them shouted at Cyrus while gripping a cleaver, "Leave the bike and the woman behind, then get the hell out!" Cyrus swept a cold gaze over them, memorizing the position of every man and every dog. He then drew his handgun and raised it in a single smooth motion.
