“Mr. Kirk, my brother’s stomach isn’t great. I’ll drink this one for him.”
Then I drained the glass in one go.
Leon glanced sideways at me, his eyes unreadable.
Round after round, I shielded him from every toast.
The alcohol burned in my gut, blurring my vision until my body felt weak.
Half-conscious, I felt someone’s arm wrap around my waist, a cold and familiar presence surrounding me.
“If you can’t drink, don’t.” His low voice carried a trace of irritation.
Leaning against his shoulder, I mumbled with a hazy smile, “I… I can handle it!”
