I was just as scared as everybody else. I stepped carefully, balancing against the rope, the wood swaying under my weight. My muscles quaked, my heart pounded in my chest. I signaled for the others, guiding them step by step. Marcus nearly lost his footing, and I lunged to steady him. “Careful! Don’t rush!” We made it across, but by the time the last teammate reached us, I was drenched in sweat, and my arms felt like they were on fire. The final challenge awaited: a small clearing with a puzzle embedded in the ground, much larger than the first. But this time, the clues weren’t numbers, they were symbols, shapes, and strange patterns. One wrong combination would reset the puzzle entirely.

These three had decided to test that belief. I folded the notice and set it aside. Then I rolled up one sleeve. The challenge took place in the underground training ring beneath Apex Dynamics. By the time I entered the ring, the three challengers were already waiting. I did not remove my jacket. I simply stepped inside and looked at them. My eyes stayed flat as I studied the three wolves opposite me. I did not threaten them. I did not ask them to reconsider. They had issued a formal challenge under pack law, and I intended to answer it the same way.

I move to my feet as he gets up to attack me again. His claws aim for my throat and I turn so he misses. As I do this my own claw comes back around and I swipe them at him. It catches his eye. He falls back. After shaking his head once he looks back at me. Four red claw marks stretch diagonally from the corner of his forehead to the bridge of his nose. His eye is now glued shut. I take the new opportunity and attack. I slam my head into his. We fight like the animals we are because we both know our lives depend on it. One of us is coming out of this and the other is not.

Chance pulled a way from Kristoff and hurried to see what the problem was. "Shit." Chance said, after seeing sud leaking out of all three machines. He picked up his pace, only to slide on the slippery floor, not at all thinking that the ground would be wet. Chance grunted out when he tried to use his hand to break his fall, thankfully after flexing it, he saw that it wasn't broken. "What are you doing, Chance? Stop goofing around, this isn't buds and suds." Kristoff said, walking over to where he was, only to fall as well.

Which was definitely not informed to us but still we have to do it right away. "The next challenge is one of endurance. No water. No rest. I manage to stand my ground the longest until the horn finally sounds. Liam catches me before I hit the ground. “I’ve got you,” he whispers. Another one is eliminated. I see the sun sets just as we are ordered to clean up for the rest of the day.
