The room felt too small for all of us, heavy with magic and old intent.
“Step aside,” Drake said. “She belongs under Council protection.”
“No,” I said. The word came out sharp, final. “She belongs nowhere near the Council.”
Lyra shifted behind me. I felt it instantly, the pull tightening, the hum inside her flaring again. Chaos surged, excited now, almost triumphant.
“She’s awakening,” Chaos said. “You can’t stop it.”
I planted my feet. “Watch me.”
Drake’s gaze flicked past me to Lyra. His expression changed, just slightly, and that scared me more than anger ever could.
