A Game Of Chess

A Game Of Chess

We stared into each other's eyes and even with the silence, I could hear Gwen's heart beating fast as her breathing became erratic. I always knew Gwen's loyalty to me was more than just admiration and if she wasn't important, I would have evicted her in a painless manner. "My lady." Gwen's smooth voice had me breaking the contact as I stood up, grabbing a pawn piece. "What is the most powerful piece in a game of chess?" I asked as I walked to my window and stared down. Father was talking to a messenger boy as I faced Gwen who was seriously thinking as she stared at the board on my desk.

Mated to My Rival Step Brother

Mated to My Rival Step Brother

“You are trying to trap my bishop.” “Maybe.” “Rude.” “That’s the point of the game.” “Still rude.” I bite my lip, focusing. I have always liked chess. It gives structure to chaos. Rules. Predictable outcomes. Unlike life. She leans back slightly, studying the board, lips pressed together. “You are strategic.” “So are you.” “Yeah, but I am also charming. It’s distracting.” I look up. “You think highly of yourself.” “Someone has to.” I move my queen.

and I move my pawn, praying the rules haven't changed much in the last couple of centuries. Bryce makes his move, and then I make mine, the fear of being found out that I am a woman slowly ebbing away. I concentrate on the game, using tactics and strategies my father showed me. I am no Bobby Fischer, but I can play a decent set of chess. Bryce, however, is a master strategist, and I don't realize how badly he cornered me until he took my Queen. "Funny," he begins speaking for the first time since we started. "The most powerful piece

Ruined On My Wedding Night; Claimed By The Billionaire

Ruined On My Wedding Night; Claimed By The Billionaire

Every servant, every employee, every familiar face suddenly became someone we could no longer trust completely. Before anyone could respond, another guard hurried toward us carrying a transparent evidence bag. Inside rested a single black chess queen. The small carved piece looked strangely elegant beneath the harsh emergency lights, yet something about it made my stomach twist with unease. Adrian accepted the bag without speaking, his fingers tightening almost imperceptibly around the plastic. "Do you recognize it?" I asked quietly. His gaze remained fixed on the chess piece for several long seconds before he finally nodded. "Years ago Cassandra insisted that every negotiation between us be

The Ultimatum Wife

The Ultimatum Wife

The way the body reacted when a truth finally stepped out of the dark. She tapped the notification. The screen opened to a single image. Not recent. Not dramatic. A photograph of a chessboard. Midgame. Black pieces. White pieces. A very specific configuration.

THE HEIRESS THEY BURRIED

THE HEIRESS THEY BURRIED

The Keeper walked slowly to the board. He pointed to Damien's letters. "These..." "...were your parents' plan." Then he pointed to the typed messages. "And these..." "...belong to someone else." Vivienne nodded. "Two different games." "The problem is..." "They're happening on the same board." Alexander dropped into a chair with a sigh. "I hate chess." Amelia smiled faintly. "I don't think the chess pieces are meant for the game." Everyone looked at her. "What do you mean?" Elara asked.

Alpha, Prince, Revenge: Which Comes First?

Alpha, Prince, Revenge: Which Comes First?

She took care of one of my pawns but I ate her hook. The game got intense as she gave me a furious look. I took it that she's playing with me or maybe testing my reaction. She ate my knight which I hadn't anticipated. I stared at how strategic her chess pieces looked at the battlefield. If I moved my queen, she would eat her but one of my pawns had almost reached the end of the line. I moved my queen and Alee took the bait. She moved her knight and ate my queen, which gave me an ample opportunity to replace my pawn with my queen.

Rebirth And Revenge: The Betrayed Heiress's Return

Rebirth And Revenge: The Betrayed Heiress's Return

Grandpa left with Ailina. I sat alone in front of the chess board and took out a paper and pen. I analyzed it step by step. Time flew and Grandpa’s tea was completely cold. I suddenly shouted, “I know.” However, there was no one in the small pavilion anymore. I drank the already cold tea in one breath. I didn’t know if it was a coincidence or Ailina’s intention. In short, I had never seen such a chess game before. Most importantly, it took a great deal of meticulousness to be able to combine typesetting with chess.

One good thing about this story is that the FL not only has a doting boyfriend but also a doting mother-in-law. Loved reading this very positive love story of a badass FL. one complaint would be this book needs a lot of corrections. It is a bit messy.

My Alpha and his three wives

My Alpha and his three wives

As they turned the board, I finally knew what the game was just as Alaric had presumed. Chess! This was my favorite game whenever I was bored and just cleared my head of some eerie thoughts. Only when it wasn't available that I resorted to books and I'm just guessing what had happened. Perhaps, Alaric and Mirable must have caught up in some way and she disclosed her intentions of getting me a book so he picked chess as a remedy. "Not a bad idea." I said slowly, smiling as I used my fingers to trail lines on it. "I never make bad ideas, now arrange your damned pawns. I'm going with black." He said and began placing them in other arrangements.
