Though the thoughts about him were forefront now, because I still hadn't come to terms with what almost happened, I had to stop thinking about it now. Maybe later I would take my time to understand it. Maybe. I opened the book slowly, my fingers tracing the frayed and worn edges of the cover, "the chronicle of the six" it stood boldly in gold lettering glaring at me. The letters shimmered faintly and I quickly turned open the first page. "This is the Chronicle of the Six. The first beings born of the moon's light. This record holds their power, their dominion... and the truth before the Great Divide."

“Are you ready for the long way?” Julian smiled. “I’ve been a ghost for too long, Maya. I’m ready to be a hero.” Maya faced the huge Eye, raising the iron key. “We’re not skipping a single word!” she shouted. She stabbed the key into the giant book. Pages exploded everywhere, forming a bridge into Chapter 61. They raced onto the bridge. The Ghostwriter waved goodbye. “Good luck! I’ll keep the ink flowing!” They stepped into the light of the next chapter. But as the world took shape around them, Maya realized something was wrong.

At Kael in the doorway. Lyra pulsed once. Deep and warm and certain. I took the vial. END OF CHAPTER 26

I looked at the three of them—my pack, my shields, my family. The fire burned brightly, casting warmth across the hidden chamber. Outside, the wind howled, and the Council's hunters searched in vain. But in the heart of the mountain, surrounded by the wolves who had chosen to stand with me, I felt something I had not felt in years. I felt ready. --- END OF CHAPTER 26
