CHASING MONSTERS
A hundred eyes burned into her, yellow and gold and blood-red, wolves gathered in human skins, snarling and whispering as she was dragged forward.
And then she saw him.
The Wolf King sat on a throne of black stone, bare-armed, muscle carved like it had been hewn from steel. His presence filled the chamber with raw gravity. His skin shimmered faintly, as though fire itself licked just beneath it. Sophie’s heart clenched hard against her ribs. He was monstrous, and yet beautiful, a god carved by the devil’s hand.
She thought bitterly: The devil’s cruelest joke, how could such a monster look like a god?
