… By the time I crawled out of bed to eat the so-called 'birthday cake', it was noon the next day. Damien lazily came over, looking completely satisfied. "Ready for that cake?" The cake had already been taken out of its box. It was a beautiful cream cake decorated with white flowers made from frosting. My expression darkened when I realized they were Bradford pear blossoms. I noticed a small card beside the cake. "Bradford pear blossoms may appear fragile and alone, yet their true meaning is one of renewal—of life beginning anew."

The following Saturday, Lucas took me to the botanical gardens just outside the city. It was his idea—something about needing to “breathe in real oxygen” after a long week of screen time and meetings. I agreed, half-joking that if the plants didn’t cure our burnout, at least they’d look good in photos. I knew what was best for the design, my foster parents were botanists and had a flower garden. They studied the plant and virtually knew everything about the plant. It had a noble and virtuous aura, Botanists around the world who claimed they had found the plants in deserts and tropical areas said it had a fragrant and intoxicating scent. It bloomed once every year and it was only at night. Though recently, technology has it that they could prolong its blooming time.

Rei said. “That could be the way to expel your friends, leaving them here.” Tris pulled his phone out to call Kyle. “We are with the twins. Rei is talking about another blossom he saw when they were last here. Is there any way we can use it to get Shyfter and Anaki out of them and keep them here?” Tris asked in a hushed tone. “What did the other blossom look like?” Artemis asked. “The 2 we had were more white and red, the 3rd blossom was the complete opposite, more red than white.” Rei replied.
