The flickering torches lining the chamber walls did little to ease the coldness in the air. The room—part occult sanctuary, part tomb of forgotten rituals—held centuries of whispers embedded into its stone. At the center, seated on a throne carved from black obsidian and bone, sat Solmyra, her hollow eyes fixed on the curling smoke that rose from a shallow bowl. Lia, who was dancing with me, stiffened, and wrapping my arm around her shoulder, I squeezed it gently, wanting her to relax before turning my attention to the Lycan who was smiling at us as we turned to face him. I cautiously opened my office door to see Mayor Fredrick sitting in my chair. "The nerves of this guy." My wolf growled. "I see you've made yourself comfortable." My voice was full of annoyance.
