“No, I’ll take a large box of chocolates as well.” The clerk gives a nod and reaches for a dark brown box. “The large box holds twelve pieces and we offer a variety of twenty-four. Which ones would you like?” Something to concentrate on. Good. I am beginning to feel more like myself. I look at the display case and the assortment of chocolates. The various shapes, the tiny decorations on each of them. “Doesn’t matter.” The clerk reaches for a dark square. “No, not that one,” I say. “The one in the shape of a leaf.” Eve will like that one. It is intriguing with all the little lines carved in it.

“I was saying that you need to treat me to a night of fried chicken in return for that one granola bar I had today.” She feels faint under Williams’s observantly smoldering gaze, hazel eyes raking her up and down as an awestruck smile curls onto his lips. “I’ll buy you all the fried chicken you want just for looking like this.” Williams’s eyes curve delightedly before leaning over to peck her cheek. “By the way, I brought you something.” He pulls back and peels open the ribboned package he’d been holding.
