The sun had already disappeared when Clara drove into the neighboring pack. She didn’t go to the main hospital. Instead, she stopped outside a small cottage surrounded by medicinal plants. An elderly healer who was famous in Raven pack but got exiled for being famous for black magic was the one who opened the door. “What do you need this time child ?” Clara carefully placed the tube on the table. “I need you to examine this.” The woman adjusted her glasses. “What am I looking for?” “I want to know whether this belongs to a wolf.” The healer looked at her curiously.

She said if one heart wasn't enough, she'd find two —there would eventually be a way to save me. When Clara was about to graduate from medical school, she started spending more time with a man named Leon Marshall. She said his heart was a perfect match for me. I begged her not to hurt anyone for my sake. But she said she was willing to do anything to save me. The day I saw Leon tied up in our apartment, I was terrified. I couldn’t believe Clara had gone this far. As I watched her calmly push a needle into his arm, panic flooded me. I tried to stop her, but she said it was too late.

She whispered and sniffed her neck before releasing her from the embrace. Clara turned lifeless within a second before her brain kick-started again from where it stopped. Her eyes were opened wide in shock. No one expected that…she didn't see that coming. "What's going on?" Aurora whispered. "Just let me deal with this," Clara responded as she watched Ophelia scurry away to where she had kept a bag. She brought it out and came back to meet Clara.

Taking a deep breath, she stepped closer to the pedestal. As her fingers touched the cool surface of the orb, a surge of energy coursed through her. Her vision blurred, and the world around her dissolved into a swirl of colors and memories. Clara found herself standing in a lush meadow, the sun shining brightly overhead. Laughter echoed around her, and she turned to see two children running through the grass—a boy and a girl, their faces radiant with joy. Her heart swelled as she realized they were her children, though they appeared older than they should have been.

Every mirror she passed seemed alive, aware, waiting. On the third night, the dream changed. She stood in the middle of a white corridor the same one from Arcadia but now the walls were filled with mirrors instead of glass panels. Each reflected corridor stretched infinitely, an unending labyrinth of herself. At the far end stood the other Clara the one who had called herself Version Twelve. She was smiling faintly, holding something in her hand: a small, circular fragment of light. Clara tried to speak, but no sound came. The other raised her free hand and traced a shape in the air: a ring, then a line through it like a signal crossing dimensions.

He patted her back gently and headed toward the door with the doctor behind him. Just as Logan was about to leave with him, he looked at Clara one more time. Their eyes met for a short moment. Then the door closed and left her alone with the nurse. Clara stared at the closed door for a long time. "What's with the puppet though," she murmured to herself. She did not even know why she said them. The nurse gave her the new clothes she would change into.

Hope. I found the Book Appointment button and let my cursor hover over it. From the bathroom, I heard the shower turn off. Heard Ethan start to hum, something cheerful and light, like the last hour hadn't happened at all. I clicked Book Appointment. Tuesday had an eleven o'clock slot open. [The next available was Tuesday at eleven.] This is crazy, I thought. Sophie's ex-husband? Really? But then I heard Ethan's footsteps padding toward the bedroom. Not toward me. Not checking if I was okay.

He looked like a big kid behaving himself so he wouldn’t set off a nuclear explosion. Until a voice shook them all. “My love!” Clara appeared running, her hair flying and her eyes shining. “Oh, Mili… you finally made it!” Mother and daughter embraced tightly, in the kind of hug that only exists when there have been oceans between two people. But the moment lasted only a few seconds. Clara opened her eyes, saw Ayden… and her expression changed like lightning. Her smile melted away. The protective mother woke up. “Oh… look who came. You little disaster…” Clara pointed at him without shame and without a single Uruguayan filter. “You really went too far with that little ring!”

As she had the previous alpha that she had changed from the death of his partner to becoming seriously ill as he was now. Clara lowered her face until her eyes settled on her feet and the white gravel beneath her sandals. She was able to define his shape a little more and wondered what had changed so that her eyesight was improving all of a sudden, when she hadn't in 22 years, rather, it had gotten worse. Wow, something was happening and it was scaring her. «Don't be scared by a stupidity like this» she heard inside her head and Clara staggered on her heels. The world around her suddenly turned black and she saw something colored, elegant in shape and with red eyes walking towards her.
