“Can you come with me for a while? I’ll introduce you to my friends.” He gently pulled me to the upper floor of the club and at the farthest corner, I saw two men looking at us as we walked towards them. One was rugged looking with tattoos on his arms, exposed by the rolled sleeves of his button down polo. The other looked decent in a white polo shirt, but his eyes were showing a hint of wickedness. “These are my friends, Blakely.” Stan smiled as he pulled my waist closer while we’re facing his friends. “That rugged-looking dude is Liam, and that one is Bradley. Guys, this is Blakely, my lovely fiance.”

“Oh, just met up with some friends.” Leah stared at me blankly. “Maise. Me and Blair are your only friends, and Blair came over here to see me.” I tried to stifle a nervous laugh. “I have other friends.” “Really? Tell me who.” She leaned forward and rested her head on her hands, acting as if she was supremely interested, not seeing through my bluff. I racked my brain, but nothing came to mind. “Look Maise, whatever this whole Buffy schtick you’ve got going on that requires you keep secrets from your only friends, can you just promise me you’re safe?” Leah sighed.

" Grandma, could you please allow my friend's new friend to live with us, I promise he will not create trouble, I want his company because I am bored of being alone in this big villa ", Alex asked. " Ok!! But who is your new friend?? ", Anjali asked with a curious face. " Brandon!! Bring my friend ", Alex asked his butler whom he ordered to bring his new buddy to his home.

He still saw me that way. Like a little sister. Just like Millicent. The thought settled in my chest like something heavy. Millicent was his cousin, but Mick had always treated her like a younger sister teasing her, protecting her, looking out for her without ever being asked. And me? I was Millicent's best friend. I had simply been included in that same category, without question or discussion. It felt safe. Familiar. Warm in a way that I was grateful for. But it also hurt in a way I had never found the words for.

But the bad days were fewer now, and the good days were starting to outnumber them. I'd made new friends. They were gentle in a way I hadn't known I needed. There was a girl named Priya from creative writing club, who laughed like thunder and never let me wallow for too long. Leo, who was quiet like Marcus but warmer, somehow. He always ran with me in the mornings and never asked about my past. And Sam, who brought me coffee every morning without being asked, just because. They didn't know about Ethan and Mia. Not the full story. I'd told them bits and pieces—enough to explain why I sometimes went quiet, why I flinched at certain names. They didn't push. They just stayed.

He doesn't have to. I already know he does. With one last glance over my shoulder, I head toward my drunk, out-of-control friends, certain he'll keep his word—and that I'll see him again soon.

I hate lying to her and keeping things from her, so thankfully, I only have one more day to go. When I get back, I find her outside. Her face is red from the wine in the glass before her, and her delicious body is encased in a loose-fitting dress. Her hair is loose and wavy, her feet bare. Across from her are Allegra and Blair, her two closest friends from the club. I’ve met them more and more often, and they are lovely. I’m so glad she has friends like them, even if they aren’t the normal friendship group. Allegra is older than my Kylie, whereas Blair is younger, almost high school age. Either way, they make her happy.

The other guy asked. "We don't know each other except for our names. I'm Liz's best friend. And Liz is-" I wasn’t able to finish what I am about to say because they cut me off. "Bryan's girlfriend." They all said. "And we're Bryan's best pal. I'm Drake, and this is Josh, Chase, and Gian." Drake introduces him and his friends. "Oh, I see. I'm Alex," I said. "Nice meeting you, Alex. Liz always talks about you. We met you finally.” Drake said.

"And here's your puppy tagging along. Adam's pissed you're screwing his friend, ya know?" I swallow my pride and shrug my shoulders. "He'll get over it, won't he?" I push my way through, and walk straight toward the fridge. "Want a beer?" Will leans against the table, palms flat against the surface and his eyes curious. "Maybe one," he says. "Ya know, maybe Cade is loosening you up. I think I'll thank him later."
