Clueless Novel Novels & Stories

But nothing seemed to match the symbol on my door. Frustrated, I leaned back in my chair, rubbing my temples. There had to be something here, some clue that I was missing. I glanced at the stack of books beside me, my eyes landing on one that looked older and more worn than the others. Its leather cover was cracked and faded, the title barely legible: *The Mysteries of Silverwood.* I pulled the book closer and opened it carefully. The pages were brittle, the text handwritten in an elegant script. As I flipped through the pages, a passage caught my eye:

There was a murmur of agreement. “Do you really think I could possibly have a lower opinion of you?” I physically felt Dudley tense up as killing intent bore into the back of my neck. “I don’t mean just Flossie. All of you. And me too — I include myself. We are completely out of our element here. Clueless doesn’t even begin to describe it. But the rules here are so screwed up, stupid could actually be the way to go. Asking a question, no matter how dumb, isn’t going to make things worse.” “You say that,” said Claire, “but you always seem to be handling it. And usually you’re doing something sneaky. And manipulative. And underhanded.”

⸻ Clara’s Discovery: The Tether Broken Hours passed before Clara’s fingers trembled as they turned the brittle pages of the ancient text she had unearthed from the ruins beneath Hollow Hill. She was no closer to understanding the full scope of the threat—but with each passage, each fragment of truth she pieced together, the situation grew grimmer.

I had those thoughts about us. ‘Now that the chase is over, there’s nothing else for us to look forward to.’ ‘What gave you that idea?’ he frowned. ‘Did I do anything that gave you any indication that this is going to end? Or that this ends here?’ Clara shrugged and sighed, then shook her head no. ‘I know I’m stupid and insecure. I’ve never had anyone like you, confident, handsome, congenial, and well-liked by everyone. There’s nothing wrong with you, nothing to fix, and I do not know what to do with myself. It makes me scared to think that you settled for less when you asked me to be yours.’

i’m cruel aren’t i? “Is she naked?” i ask. ” Technically no,- ” i sigh in relief. “she is half naked though” my eyes go wide. “What!” I squeak. “Hey, my mom hasn’t found out yet, her laptop is at home. she went to some lunch and she might come home any moment.. please can you help me crack her password so i can delete the email.” “Oh, i’m not good with hacking this type of shit. I think Ginger might help.”

“Oh, I thought you didn’t enjoy reading novels. Turns out you’re a novel lover. There’s something I want to ask you about the night we did that intimate act. I heard you say something, but it wasn’t very clear. Would you mind repeating what you said?” Shit! Apparently, he was half-awake. I thought he’d fallen into a deep sleep because he was drunk. I had to find the right answer so he wouldn’t get suspicious. “I forgot. Is there a clue? So I can remember.” He paused for a moment, seeming hesitant to give me a clue. “Um, I vaguely heard the word ‘pregnant.’” My God! I regretted my stupidity.

“And I can be uhh ...fun. You are not alone. You have access to all amenities.” “Right,” Claudine muttered, running a hand through her hair, sighing. “Just me, and the army of invisible helpers. Fantastic. At least it’s not a dog-eat-dog world here, just a cat-and-mouse one, with me as the mouse, no doubt.” She sighed again. “Well, since Hades decided to play world traveler without telling his royal consort, I suppose I’ll explore his kingdom. Does this place have a secret bunker? Or maybe a room full of puppies? Something to make this abandonment feel less... pointless?”

The heavy steel door of "The Obsidian" muffled the roar of the city, replacing it with a low-frequency thrum that Clara felt in her teeth. The air inside was thick, tasting of expensive leather, ozone, and a musk so potent it made her lightheaded. Clara was a woman of quiet habits and ironed pleats, but tonight, she had stepped across the threshold into a world that didn't care for politeness. She stood in the shadows of the velvet-draped foyer, her heart a frantic bird against her ribs, her knuckles white as she gripped the strap of her clutch.

He was not quite smiling, but the territory around his eyes had changed in a way I was beginning to be able to read. "You knew," I said. "I suspected," he said. "I wasn't sure. You are not," he added, with the gravity of a man choosing his words thoughtfully, "the easiest person to read." "That is," I said, "a very diplomatic way of saying I was obvious." "You were not obvious," he said. "You were—" He paused. "Subtle?" I offered. "I was going to say interesting." "Interesting," I repeated. "Ellie."

Leah watched him, and the sight made something ache inside her. The review she had received drifted absurdly through her mind for one second: grammar not good, writing style not good, plot only three stars. Perhaps this was why stories needed clearer lines than life. Life did not reveal itself neatly. It came in hints, missing staff records, phrases like private family illness, flowers that were not flowers, rooms that were not only rooms. Life made people stand in warm houses with cold hands, trying to decide which sentence was a clue and which was only cruelty dressed as coincidence. Daniel lifted his head. “We do not contact Clara Venn directly.”
