Wesley followed close behind, cracking jokes to keep spirits up, his energy lighter but his eyes serious. After the last of them had been wheeled out, I stood in the middle of the car, surrounded by silence. The cabin looked like a war zone. Open water bottles rolled across the floor. Used barf bags sat bloated in the corner. Blankets and jackets were strewn across the seats. The air still hung heavy with the sour stench of vomit and disinfectant. I grabbed a clean towel and began wiping down a row of seats. I wasn’t on staff. It wasn’t my job. But I needed to do something.

She said. “Maybe you mean that after we clean all of YOUR mess, then I won’t have any complain for you! Because what can you complain about me? The place where I ate is so clean! Not even a single cracker crumbs! All the rappers are disposed! I didn’t even finish my second bottle of cola!” I said and she just chuckled at me again.

“See? Teamwork makes the dream work.” Theo leaned closer while handing change to a customer. “You smell nice even when you’re sweating, you know that?” His whispered compliment made my face burn. I clutched the edge of the table, feeling another rush of slick heat between my legs. Why did their words affect me so strongly? I was just the chubby cleaner, yet both of them were treating me like I was special.

Under all of it, the room held the smell of clean water, antiseptic, engine oil buried in the walls and floorboards, and Lucas. Not blood. Not mud. Not the rank, brutal stench of battle that had clung to him when they first brought him in. The pack had washed all of that from him. Thoroughly. Carefully. Whatever had been caked into his skin and hair was gone now, stripped away with a kind of practical reverence that felt almost ceremonial. They had cleaned him as though the very idea of leaving him filthy would have been an insult, not merely to him, but to what he had become.

Two years later, an unfamiliar account sent me a follow request on Instagram. Given the nature of my work, I was accustomed to accepting requests from strangers. I sent a polite greeting, but the person never replied. Their profile picture was a lazy cat, giving no hint about their identity. Just as I was about to check out their profile, I received a file in my messages. I tapped on it. The title read, "Till Death Do Us Apart: The Romantic Wedding of Christopher Barrett and Yvette Chandler." The cover photo showed Yvette beaming alongside an unfamiliar man.

"I built the entire system! The computers and surveillance all have records! Those tycoons aren't idiots—one look, and they'll know who the real culprit is!" Unhurried, Maya stuffed a cleaning rag into my mouth. Her eyes gleamed with delight. "Thanks for the reminder. I'll destroy all that evidence, then. The virus is gone, so your system won't be needed anymore. "And while I'm at it, I can even take credit for Elijah. This will definitely help his future." She slowly closed the cabinet door. As it shut, the look she gave me carried the faintest trace of guilt.

Complaints, insults, excuses, frustration. “That asshole plays dirty.” “The ref was bought.” “We shouldn’t have lost like that.” I clench my jaw as I read, close the chat without thinking too much because I don’t want to stay there, don’t want to keep going over the same thing, don’t want to think about the game or him, so I set my phone aside and take a deep breath, trying to clear my head, even if it’s just for a while. Tonight I’m only going to do one thing, drink enough to not feel anything and leave early before it all becomes unbearable, no drama, no complications, not giving him more space than he already takes.

"I've already completed your orders—go ahead and inspect them." Patrick clearly didn't buy it. He paced around the restroom with a frown, crouching down to check the toilet and running a hand over the sink. He instantly scowled when he couldn't find a single flaw to nitpick. He did something incredibly disgusting after—he spat directly onto the clean floor right in front of me. "What do you mean it's clean? What's this here, then?" He then tilted his chin and barked an order at me. "Go wipe it off for me—and make sure there isn't a single trace left."

Subsequently, she lost time and energy to come clean about his health condition. I believed that everything happened for a reason, and karma was a bitch.

“If you turn over a couple of pages, you’ll see the the next releases of my comic in pencil, ready for inking. You know how to do that, from school, you remember?” “Yeah, I remember. I like these ones better,” his smirk was wicked as he continued to look through the sketches. “F-k,” he tilted his head to the side. “Now that’s glorious. The expression on Cam’s face and the way you’ve drawn Talen like he’s a f-king sex god… I love it! I want it on my bedroom wall.
