“Tell me something ordinary,” Mac said quietly, as they drove home from Whitmore House, the sandwich wrappers settled on the back seat beside Dave, who had fallen asleep before they’d even reached the main road. “Tell me something completely ordinary about today.”
Cloe looked at him, surprised, then smiled.
“Dave ate his whole sandwich,” she said. “Which he never does, usually he leaves the crusts. And he talked for twenty minutes about whether his school’s football team was actually any good, which it apparently isn’t.”
