"Safehouse downtown. He gave me a file. Red folder. It's—Cass, he's doing something with Argon."
"I know," I said. "I found it."
There was a pause.
"Tell me everything," he said, voice tightening.
And so I did.
By nightfall, I stood in the penthouse kitchen, pouring bourbon into two glasses. I turned just as Jeffery walked in—tall, broad, his dress shirt half untucked, sleeves rolled up to his forearms. His green eyes found mine, intense, shadowed.
"I missed you," he said, voice low.
