Unlike Daniel, who seemed eager to pin everything on me, Marcus was guiding me, step by step, toward the cracks in the case.
“Officer Cole, do you also think I’m not the killer?”
Marcus paused mid-motion as he gathered his files.
He looked up at me, his gaze deep, but instead of answering, he said something completely out of the blue.
“Think carefully. Aside from yourself, who knows your habits, your secrets… even the meaning behind the tattoo on your wrist?”
With that, he stood and walked out.
I sat there, stunned, replaying his words over and over.
