I point to my hand-drawn map. “Nah. If it' s a dragon, I’ll check for eggs to harvest.” He looks at the map closer. “That’s the ridge we passed last week?” “Yeah. If you see anything else, send a mindlink. I’m confident you won’t, though.” I turn to Marco. “Two werebears and a goblin to the east, Big Guy.” “Suena bueno.” He takes off his shirt. “Sending Clash in. Do we know what the bear spirits’ breeds are?”

His skin was tanned, as if he spent most of his time outside – killing territory passers – and he had a light stubble lining that perfect jaw. “Name’s Chase, never come into my territory again” he says and I’m suddenly pushed backwards. I land on my bum again, knowing that it will join the parts of me that will become blue. I scramble up, rushing towards Felix. For the first time in our lives, he wraps an arm around my waist, comforting me. “If I see any of you close to the border again – I will end you!” Chase warns. When Carson was little his favorite cartoon has something to do with bears, so he just gave me the nickname Moon Bear and called himself Sun Bear. Lachlan became Lock Bear, then Jase became Earth Bear, Arson became Air Bear, and Ransom became Death Bear. Weston came along after Carson's death so I deemed him West Bear.

Hebert calmly shifted to place himself between me and the bear man's overwhelmingly untamed presence, shielding me from his rough energy. Raising an eyebrow, Hebert's tone was ice-cold: "A shopping mall? Boris, has your brain been frozen by the Siberian winds?"

Waiting for me to take my place. I locked eyes with Bear. He lifted the cup in his hand as a silent signal that he hadn’t done anything to cause problems. I don’t think he would lash out.
