Antoinette’s chant shifted again, her voice rising and falling in a pattern that made the ground respond, each word pulling more power into the circle. The air pulsed in response.
Clara inhaled slowly, like she was savoring it.
“A dark deity,” she said, almost reverently. “One that answers only to power.”
Cold spread through me.
“And when it rises,” she continued, her eyes gleaming with something dangerous, “it will grant us everything we desire.”
