Then the laugh cracked. But it didn’t fade gracefully; it splintered right in the middle of a breath, laughter fracturing into something wet and broken as tears burned behind my eyes so fast I couldn’t blink them back. One second my mouth still held the shape of a smile, the next hot, messy streaks were spilling down my cheeks while the sound I’d been making choked itself into silence. Dr. Harlan kept smiling thinking I was probably just laughing through tears. Then he saw it. Really saw it.

Jacob walked behind me, his own eyes cast down, thinking about what lay beneath the mystery of my smile. Smiling gently, lips in a sweet curve, I walked alongside Jacob. My smile was the slow and deliberate kind, a slow smile spreading across my face like a sunrise sweeps across the sky. But Jacob had no idea why I smiled; the satisfaction and control I felt surged through my veins. He looked at me, seeking my eyes for an answer, but I simply continued smiling back in amusement with a glint in my eyes, savoring the moment.

He added while laughing at me. "Are you genuinely trying to comfort me or are you making fun of me?” I looked at him evilly and took the tissue he was handing me. "Well, I'm not good at comforting someone. So, instead of crying I rather choose to see you smile.” But after he said that, he took a deep breath and spoke again, "But, it doesn't mean you can't cry in front of me." He started driving, "Crying is normal when you are sad, hurt, or happy. I hope the next time I see your tears is because of joy, Lorain.”

A chill behind the eyes. He smiled. "So… you’ve come."

I smear a smile of bitterness on my face while in my heart I am crying like a weaning newborn baby who can’t talk and really needs breastfeeding. “Okay, if you say so” he stutters and raises the countenance of his face from a frown to a brightening smile which I am not so sure is pure and transparent. I can hear his heartbeat and from that I can decipher that he is just trying to hold back his intense disappointment. “Bye” I wave at him after hugging him. He smiles as he watches me walk away. “Let me drop you off at the club” he says as I just turned and backed him. I halt for a second before I turn and face him.

My eyes freeze on him when I notice an older lady and some other passers-by leaving coins in the basket near him. My eyes burn, extracting the moisture out of my eyes. His adorable smile while singing overshadows my tears, bringing a beautiful smile on my face too. I keep staring at him while crying and smiling at once. In no time, he turns sideways and discovers me in front of him. We share a few meters of distance. His smile vanishes there as his voice chokes. He keeps playing the guitar only, keeping his eyes on mine. I know how he must be feeling right now.

I like like you too Jace smiled and beaconed on her to get up so they could get going. The both of them kept smiling till they reached the library. Blue was still glancing through the book when they arrived. She noticed they were both smiling like idiots. Blue: whoaah! What's with the smiling faces. What did I miss out? Jace : huh? I don't know y she's smiling but I'm smiling because she's smiling Rainbow : and I'm smiling because he's smiling

She took the drink with a smile and takes a sip. He relaxed his hands in his pocket, and scoots closer to her, heaving a sigh. “Enjoying?” he asked. Her eyes follow his face. “I can’t say I am enjoying completely. But thanks for asking anyway.” “Why do you pretend to be fake when you aren’t? why smiling when you can’t smile from inside?”. “And who said I am not smiling from inside? You are wrong about it. I am not sad about anything. Not now anyway.” She drank the whole win in one sip.
