Around her, the green magic grows as her fingertips stretch towards the ground below, and flares wildly in arcs and snaps so bright those of us watching shield our eyes against it.
Shifting, I watch as from deep inside the earth, liquid crystal flows upward, covering the vampire’s gemstone cage. Seeping in, it fills, imprisoning him like something trapped in amber, cutting off his silent screams and weak thrashing. A subterranean rumble shakes the plaza, knocking me and those around me off our feet, and I scramble backwards from the edge of the crater. “Get back! Tessa! Get back!”
