Such a fun chapter!! Chapter 11 - Colton Hastings doesn't get jealous. ~~~ Café Day was a small coffee and cupcake shop that sold reasonable yet extremely delicious creamy and unhealthy food. It was exactly what anyone would need on a hot Sunday morning. Starbucks was just a few blocks away from it, still, Café Day was never short of customers. The majority of students preferred Café Day due to its not-so-soaring-the-sky rates. Plus they rarely wrote the names on the cups wrong.

David's snoring in the bed beside me, oblivious to what had happened. His arm slung over the pillow where my head should be. But I'm here, in the dim glow of my phone screen, scribbling this out in my diary, because if I don't, it'll eat me alive. Today wasn't just a slip; it was a dive, headfirst into something I've been circling for months. Or years, if I'm honest. ***** At Zephyra Art Gallery, I didn't just let it happen. I started it. Me. Poppy. The good wife, the one who packs David's lunch with snacks, fruit and love notes. What the hell is wrong with me?

A cooler full of soda and sweet tea sat beside the grill, and the speaker played a mix of country, Taylor Swift, and songs from 2010 that felt like middle school all over again. Harper stood near the dessert table, watching Mia reorganize the cupcakes for the sixth time in twenty minutes. "Mia," she said, amused. "You’re nervous." Mia didn’t look up. "They’re unbalanced. See? The ones with the edible glitter need to be front and center. That’s where the light hits them best. Otherwise, they just look... dusty." Harper snorted. “Oh no. Not dusty cupcakes.”

She softly told her husband, “Honey, I don’t know if being a sharpshooter has anything to do with having a boy, but okay! I believe you.” “Does everyone have a cupcake?” The party host asked. “Please raise your cupcake, and let us take a bite together!” Everyone eagerly ate the cupcake. Abner, who was seated next to Anthony, said, “I have blue! It’s a boy?” “I have blue too,” Adrian echoed. Riley stared at her cupcake in confusion. Inside was a strawberry cream. She said, “How come my cupcake has a pink filling?” “Mine is pink too,” Samuel said.

He just breathes against my spine, and I let myself lean back into him fully. This is intimacy now. Not fire. Not escape. But presence. The next morning, I bake again. Not just for me. This time, two cupcakes. One with lemon zest. One with dark chocolate shavings. When Damian walks into the kitchen, he pauses. “You baked?” I smile. “Again. Still not dead.” He picks up the lemon one, takes a bite. Moans. “Oh, thank God. I thought the world was ending.” I laugh for real this time.

A loud gasp left my lips when I saw the delicious and warm chocolate cupcakes displayed on her counter. "You didn't!" She smirked at me and grabbed the pizza box from my hand. "Yes I did. The plan was to bring them to you tomorrow but since you're here now, help yourself." Sylvia knows I have a crazy addiction to chocolate cupcakes ever since I was a teen, but since I can't involve them in my diet I had to force myself to stop. But it's not helping when she made them look so yummy with thick chocolate icing on it and recently taken out of the oven so, maybe it wouldn't hurt just a little bit to try them out just for tonight.

“Seems like it.” “Alrighty.” Nancy moved to the display case and placed two cream puffs into a white paper box. Folding the lid inward, she explained, “Sush doesn’t take more caffeine when she’s stressed like that. In the last few months when she looked like she was losing it, I normally treated her to one of these babies or matcha cupcakes. Since the cupcakes are sold out, this is our only option.” As Nancy jabbed the numbers on the cash register, she asked, “She sent you to get them?” “No,” Greg replied curtly, placing a note on the counter and saying, “Keep the change.”

Although, cupcake is literally the cutest food, I find the most favourite. "I see you're enjoying your order..." Speaks Hillary, making me remember that I'm not alone here. Jeez! I almost forgot...the work of cupcake to my brain. It's like an addictive drug for me. Hehe; laughs my subconscious. "Yeah, I really am. Cupcake is my favourite." "I see. By the way, I haven't been thankful of your help towards my writing on Wednesday; I should have been." He clears his throat, "thanks, Ana, for the help." I smile a cheeky smile.

IT HAS BEEN THREE MONTHS. THREE BLOODY MONTHS and the pain keeps getting worse. This morning it was so bad that I was barely able to get out of bed. No matter the amount of wolfsbane I consumed, the split bond was eating me up. And it was eating me fast. I grab the piping paper and decorate the last cupcake from the batch. I look up from the cupcakes as three college students walk in. “Welcome to Petals and Bean Cafe,” I say to them but they outright ignore me and walk over to their table.

Four months ago, I had left New York with a broken heart, too many unanswered questions, and a life I no longer knew how to live. Now, my stomach had grown noticeably round, carrying the tiny life that had become the most precious secret in my world. “This is the last batch of the cupcakes,” I assured her. “After this, I'll finally go and rest.” Mrs. Johnson shook her head, though there was a smile tugging at the corners of her lips. “The whole town is practically going crazy over those cupcakes.” She walked closer and glanced at the display case. “Every morning, within just an hour of opening, they're the first thing to sell out. Sometimes, people even come here early just to make sure they
